Cuts For a Cure was founded in April of 2024 by me, Dylan Rozansky a Newport, RI Local. I set out on a mission to raise awareness and money for cancer research with the original goal of $2,500. My drive to do this came from three things. The school I attended The Pennfield School had a 20 hour community service requirement going into eighth grade year that once completed they would have to give an assembly speech about in front of the whole school. There were various ways you could have completed this 20 hours, some as simple as being a camp councilor. Still I took a harder route, I chose to conquer something that had affected me deeply. In early 2021 I lost my grandmother to cancer and in 2023 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily thanks to the amazing care and equipment available to her she was able to beat it. I didn't chose mowing lawns for no reason, my father has owned a landscaping business throughout my lifetime and even before owning his own he worked for his father who owned a landscaping business, quite the family affair. So I was highly educated and skilled in this field and thought what better way to raise money for cancer research than while doing something you love. That summer I raised $4000 crushing my original goal. I donated it to my local non-profit Hope Funds, their mission is to encourage investigation of innovative cancer treatment and detection for the most difficult-to-treat and understudied cancers. The Hope Funds for Cancer Research supports scientific and medical research programs aimed at increasing knowledge relating to both cancer care and prevention. We support programs we believe have the highest probability of success in addressing unmet medical needs, which we determine by rigorous scientific and economic analysis. After successfully donating and completing a year of Cuts For a Cure I did it again, until now.
